ABOUT ME

Laura Harrison Nachman

This site is a lifetime in the making.

Influenced by my parents who watched television all the time, I became one of those kids who watched television all the time, especially "The Brady Bunch," which aired on Philadelphia's Channel 48 every day after school.  I looked forward to Thursdays when the "TV Guide" arrived at my home, and got very excited at the start of the new television season every September. By the time I entered junior high, friends called me "The Human TV Guide."

At Marple-Newtown Senior High,  I took a journalism elective and was inspired by a wonderful teacher named Mrs. Bedein, who took our class on field trips to the old WWDB 96.5-FM and "The Jane Whitney Show," and brought in guest speakers such as disc jockey, Randy Kotz, who also was a graduate of MN. My first television review (written for the class) was for the Sarah Jessica Parker show "Square Pegs."

I enrolled in the Journalism program at Temple University and was a sportscaster for the campus radio station, WRTI 90.1-FM.  With aspirations of becoming the next Gayle Gardner (ESPN), I was the first female game analyst for the Temple Mens Basketball games.  I had a wonderful experience at WRTI and made many lifelong friends who are successful in the media world.

After graduating from Temple, I worked behind-the-scenes for Sixers basketball on WPHL-17 for two seasons.  I learned about the business from executive producer Dave Goetz and the "techs" (the backbone of any television station). Although I loved sports, I realized that working nights and weekends (when sporting events occur) wasn't for me.

Thus, I entered the 9-5 world as a copywriter for the Donnelley Directory "Talking Yellow Pages."  Thanks to the encouragement of head copywriter, Tom Richards, I wrote and announced many of the entertainment codes including "Prime Time Picks" for six years.

When "Talking Yellow Pages" was discontinued, I continued at Donnelley for three more years in the "Internet Yellow Pages" department, where I learned to create web sites. I founded "Web Site Designs by Laura Nachman" in 2000.

I began my television column, "Channel Surfing," for "The Bucks County Courier Times" in 2000.  My sports media column, "On The Air," was spun-off the following year.   I thank my editors at the BCCT, Tom Haines and Gary Silvers for hiring me to write those columns.

I launched LauraNachman.net in October of 2007.

Besides the web site, I also appear regularly as a television expert on "It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle" on CN8 and on "The Jim Foxwell Show" on WBCB 1490-AM every Thursday morning at 8:45 a.m.

Over the years, I've also appeared on NBC10, 6ABC, WPHT 1210-AM, WIP 610-AM, and WDEL 1150-AM.  A big thrill was when I participated in "A Very Brady Marathon" on CW 57 in 2005 and 2006 and in A & E's "Biography" of "The Brady Bunch" in 2003.

Of course, this web site would not be possible without the support of my husband, Brad, and children, Macy, 13, and Fletcher, 8.

I hope you enjoy lauranachman.net!

I rely on her opinion totally so I'll know what's worth it and what's not. And if I were to ever be asked a sports trivia question on a game show, Laura would be my lifeline.
