Fox29 personalities Thomas Drayton and Sean Tobin showed their lack of baseball knowledge during Monday’s pregame show when Drayton said that Cliff Lee’s postseason ERA was “5-4″ instead of “zero-point-five-four” and Tobin asked fans how many “points” the Phillies would win by. Let’s score that an error for the station.

One of many errors by this station in recent memory.
Among the many include:
Hiring creepy Mike Jerrick
Over-exposing awful Joe Stazak
Asking Hugh Douglas to “analyze”
football.
Sending Steve Keeley out to interview high school girls.
Stuffing puffy Cuz Gargano into suits which are several sizes too small.
On the bright side, they did bring back Sally Ann Mosey

Drayton has to be hands down the worst broadcaster ever. These new commercials with him and Kerri Lee are pretty awful too.

Laura -
I’d like to see you try to hold down live coverage of a major sports or breaking news event.
You really know very little about how news is produced, but you sure love to criticize people.

Drayton said “the Phillies won the National Pennant” a couple of weeks ago. It’s the National League Pennant. He cannot read a teleprompter. The promos for him are horrible.

More proof that WTXF has no idea what the hell they’re doing. It’s a third rate news organization that has a news guy doing sports and doing it badly. They think that Hugh Douglas is worth anything on the air. Their sports department is a joke! I’d rather see no pre and post game shows if all they can do is throw that crap on the air.

Didn’t they bring Steve Bucci aboard to help out for the postseason? He was VERY underused, considering he actually knows what the hell he’s talking about.

Oh yeah - and what about the ads where Kerri-Lee says Drayton “grew up here”. His dad was BRIEFLY stationed at Fort Dix…

Bloated Cuz Gargano said “We” at least three times in the post-game show after game 5.
Someone needs to tell this clown that he is NOT on the team.
His credibility diminishes by the day

Cuz reminds me of the old wrestler, “George The Animal Steel.”

Ok…the best thing for Fox to do is to out source their sports dept—-it is so clear that the do not care about it unless it’s playoff time. Since all of the local teams are playoff bound (or should be—come on’ Sixers), it would make sense to out source.
Besides Comcast Sportsnet is there any other companies that could handle the responsibility of @ 7 hours of spot sport coverage (about 30 minutes in total per day)?

Game 5’s pre-game show kept stating that the Yankees blew a 3-1 lead to the NY Giants in 1936. But when the national telecast began, FOX stated the Yankees have NEVER blown a 3-1 world series lead! So I looked it up and it appears the Yanks beat the Giants 4-2 in the ‘36 series. Way to go WTXF!

We could do without a local pregame show to a national telecast and leave it up to the network, just do a local postgame show edition of the news at ten. BTW they should have just left it the Ten O Clock News since it is beating 17 and 57’s news at ten!

Drayton and Halkett’s promos scream ‘Look at Me! Look at Me!!’

Speaking of Gargano, why doesn’t FOX inclode Chris Wheeler into their World Series coverage? (Note: This was just a question not an idea!!!)
16 B // Nov 3, 2009 at 12:33 pm
I now turn the TV to another channel when the FOX 29 promo with its news readers ambushes me while watching the World Series. Here is what I wrote about that promo on this site last week:
“The Fox 29 promo with its news readers is the most disingenuous use of video in the history of TV. Absolutely nauseating that the station and these two news readers would allow it to appear on public airwaves. It’s what I call “fake.”
Stop watching local broadcast TV news, it’s simply insulting. There’s far better ways to stay informed.
And… “idiot”: What exactly do you think is the point of this website? It’s to exchange information, opinions, criticism and praise. Nothing wrong with Laura’s opinion, and how do you know she knows very little about how news is produced? Do you know her complete professional background?

fox29 is such a junior varsity operation for reasons detailed by WackyJack. But Drayton and Tobin are beyond an embarrassment to Fox29 … they are an embarrassment to men. …or, are they? hmmmm.

[...] Nachman says two local Fox sports TV reporters didn’t get their baseball lingo straight on [...]
19 idiot // Nov 6, 2009 at 1:11 am
To “B:”
This website, in theory, is so a “reporter” can “report” on comings and goings in local newsrooms.
But the “reporter” in question so regularly gets her facts wrong (or cherry-picks whatever makes WPVI look good and WTXF look bad) she simply isn’t credible.
If Laura knew anything about local news, she would post demographic ratings and not households. She would know that Sean Tobin is not John Atwater’s replacement. She would have some context and understanding for why news managers make the decisions they do.
All she does, quite frankly, is cut and paste from press releases written by certain stations in town.

So That means anybody can be a reporter based on talking about any and every press release they get (minus those interviews with people involved)? Confused!

sean tobin is a real local guy, he paid his dues to be here……..give him time. Nice to see a local boy do good.

idiot, easy solution: Erase this URL from your bookmarks and you will no longer have to bitch and moan about what Laura does or doesn’t do. Problem solved.

any truth to the rumor that Fox29 has hired Jim Donovan of CBS3 to be their new sports anchor?

When the Phillies beat the Rockies in the NLDS, Thomas Drayton referred to the Phillies as the “National League Division Series Champions”. I cringed when he said that. Would someone tell him there is no such thing
