One of the stories told at Gary Papa’s memorial service Wednesday was that when Papa began here in 1981, he did not like Philadelphia, and almost quit his job at Channel 6.
According to his brother, Greg, who is an announcer for the Oakland Raiders, Gary was so unhappy in the beginning of his tenure, he took off for three weeks.
The news director at the time, Alan Nesbitt, took Papa back, and the rest is history.
