Television Turkeys

December 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yes, I know it’s late, but better late than never.  Here are some of the local television turkeys of the year

Obvious Turkey of the Year - Larry Mendte of course.  Most of the accounts describe how Mendte leaked information about Alycia Lane to the press, but another thing that was despicable was that he wrote an anonymous letter to the Manhattan D.A. to damage Lane in her case with the NYC police.

Turkey Hash - If not for Mendte’s antics, NBC10’s Vince DeMentri would’ve easily been turkey of the year for his alleged involvement with younger anchor Lori Delgado.

Succotash - CBS3 Meteorologist Doug Kammerer had the misfortune to tangle with DeMentri in the Hurricane Schwartz/flood fiasco when he was at NBC10, and Mendte, who was suspected of also messing with his email.

CN8 - It’s not often that an entire network is canceled, but it’s happening.

NBC10’s Version of the Heidi Game, aka the Lipstick Jungle Game - When the Phillies won their first World Series in 28 years, instead of airing the celebration, NBC10 decided to stick with the Brooke Shields clunker that was canceled by the network two weeks later.

Football Frenzy Curse - 6ABC player reporter Omar Gaither, who just lost his starting job, is the latest Eagle to suffer a setback after appearing on the show. Others include Shawn Andrews (depression, bad back) and Dhani Jones (Cincinnati Bengals).

Mid-Atlantic Emmys - This year’s ceremony was embarrassed by Larry Mendte leading with over 20 nominations.

Watch Out Sign-Man - Maybe Latrice Bryant can start going to Flyers’ games after her Jeff Cole KKK sign made headlines.

Hunt for Bonnie - New talk show Bonnie Hunt is buried on CWPhilly at 2 a.m.

Traffic Jam - Popular traffic reporter Dorothy Krysiuk is ditched by Fox29 for not working a split shift.

Tolley Benched - Fox29 also said goodbye to sports director Don Tollefson.

When I was watching Action News Monday night, it looked like sports anchor Gary Papa had lost some hair.  Evidently, I wasn’t the only viewer who noticed as a few people have inquired about him on this site.
